Monique de Ruiter

Host & Owner of Villa Soraya

As the original owner of Villa Soraya, I have lived and worked in the South of France and Italy for over 15 years. I love sharing my passion for this region! I know the area inside out and am happy to share my personal ‘insider tips’ for the best local restaurants and hidden gems.

Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by my dedicated French hostess. Together with her husband, who maintains our beautiful garden, she ensures everything is perfectly prepared for your stay. She speaks French and a little English. My goal is simple: to make sure you feel completely at home and at ease from the moment you arrive.

Monique’s Personal Tips

Marché Borriglione

Cascade de Gairaut

Musée Matisse:

Every morning (except Mondays), I visit this market for fresh fruit, vegetables, and the finest French cheeses. It is a wonderful, lively place where you can taste the true essence of Nice. Hop on the tram, and within 5 minutes, you’ll be right in the heart of the action!

This historical waterfall is a true hidden treasure! Located slightly uphill, it offers breathtaking panoramic views over Nice and the Mediterranean Sea. It’s a lovely spot to escape the hustle and bustle, wander through the caves, and capture your most beautiful holiday photos.

This is absolutely my favorite museum! You can easily walk there through the elegant Cimiez neighborhood. The museum is housed in a stunning red villa surrounded by ancient olive trees. After admiring Matisse’s colorful masterpieces, I love to relax in the adjacent park for a picnic or a quiet cup of coffee.
