Skiing in Isola 2000: A Day Trip from Nice

From the Beach to the Snow: Skiing in Isola 2000

Did you know that in Nice, you can sip your morning coffee in the sun by the sea and be on the ski slopes by the afternoon? It sounds almost too good to be true, but on the French Riviera, this is simply part of the lifestyle!

Recently, my son and his cousin did exactly this and had a fantastic experience. They hopped on the special “Bus 100% Neige” (Line 92), a dedicated seasonal shuttle that takes you straight to the heart of the mountains.

Plan Your Trip: Bus 100% Neige (Line 92)

To make your trip as smooth as possible, here is the essential travel info:

  • Departure Times: The bus typically departs early in the morning, around 07:20 AM.

  • Pick-up Locations:

    • Grand Arénas: Located near the Nice Airport (perfect for a quick connection).

    • Vauban: The main bus hub in the eastern part of the city.

  • Return Trip: Most buses depart from Isola 2000 around 05:00 PM, getting you back to Nice in time for a cozy dinner.

  • Tickets: You must book in advance! Tickets are not sold on the bus. You can easily buy them online via the Lignes d’Azur website.

  • Price: It is incredibly affordable, usually costing around €5 to €10 for a one-way ticket (prices may vary per season).

High Altitude and Southern Sunshine

The scenic drive takes about 90 minutes to two hours, winding through the beautiful mountain landscapes of the Southern Alps. As the name suggests, Isola 2000 is situated at an altitude of 2,000 meters. This high elevation almost guarantees excellent snow conditions, while its southern location means you’ll often be skiing under a bright blue sky.

With 120 kilometers of slopes, there is something for everyone. For more details on lift passes and ski rentals, check the official Isola 2000 website.

Monique’s Insider Tips for the Slopes

  • Rent in advance: Save time by booking your skis or snowboard online at one of the shops in the main station.

  • Sunscreen is a must: Even in winter, the Mediterranean sun at 2,000 meters is very strong!

  • The “Après-Ski” Vibe: Enjoy a hot chocolate or a “Vin Chaud” at a mountain terrace before catching the bus back.
